Kinky Kinks
Now this has sufficiently freaked me out. I was poking around my local eBay and I spotted four fairly interesting local items. One dude was selling a Southern Cross VHS (Yes! Amazing, huh?) for (converted to dollars from my currency) around 2 dollars. Freaky.
Another guy was selling this little item. I don't know what it is but it looks like a toy catalogue of some sort. Makes me wonder where the guy got it since I'm pretty sure not a lot of folks down here own Robotech merchandise. Anyway, it intruiged me since it's got Southern Cross stuff in the cover. You know me - I'm just nuts for that "crappy" show.
Well, it's selling for another 2 bucks so it makes me think - should I get it? The seller is known to be trustworthy so it's really an issue of should I throw my money away? But at the price it almost seems like a steal.
Another item of great interest is - get this - the Waltrip's Robotech: Sentinels Part 1 and 2 'manga' book! Wow! No matter what they say about that series, it's still Robotech so gosh. I'd love to own it. The only problem is that it's the priciest thing in the list - more than ten dollars (Maybe 11?)! Is it a steal? I dunno. At least I won't have to worry too much about shipping (it's a local eBay, remember?) but still...
The biggest drawback would probably be that it'll end up making me want more. I've heard it said these first issues are slow though... Oh well. I'll have to consider it.
Now here's something I want! Yeah!!

How come I've never heard of this?? Grr.... Man, this is some freaky shit. I mean, wow, look at that cover. I have to have this. Where else would I find a muscular (or butch) Lisa Hayes lifting weights? Or two generic blonde Waltrip-style anime characters in bikinis? Nowhere! Exactly! I still can't get over Miria Parino's haircut (bottom left, greenish hair woman). The 80's (or 90's?) sure were weird.
As you can see, it's at a fairly high price of 200 (of my currency). That's around 4 dollars? Not exactly cheap for what looks to be a paper thin issue. But still, I'd love to see this... novelty item simply for its sheer... noveltiness (I'm an artist, not a writer).
Did I mention that all the items I mentioned have no bidders?

2. Based on the price, I'm assuming that you're talking about the first two collected editions of the Waltrips' Sentinels; if so, the warning I'll give you is that by the end of the second book all that's happened is Rick & Lisa's wedding (that's right, eight chapters to accomplish what the Sentinels video did in ninety minutes -- it's the exact opposite of the Comico ROBOTECH TV adaptations), and the artwork in the early issues is pretty rough in spots. But those two hardcover editions are pretty sweet in the presentation department.
3. The Swimsuit Spectacular is some totally freaky shit. On the one hand, it's in full glorious color (a rarity for Eternity era books) and it's got a few really pretty nice pieces of the women of the Sentinels era -- though it kind of weirds me out that the best pieces (in my opinion) are of the newly married (at the time) Lisa Hayes.
On the other hand, this book gives you a picture of Rick Hunter in a speedo.
Breetai, too.
*shudder*
As for your remarks on the cover ... the big butch weight-lifter is one of the Praxian Amazons, Bela, and as for Miriya's hair ... blame the 1980's, they were just working from the 1986 Sentinels character design.
Also, there's much less of the crazy cartoon balloon breasts inside the book. No spines as horribly broken as poor Gnea's seems to be (top left-hand side), either. (Comment this)
2. Regarding the Sentinels comic... Hmm... I'll have to think about it, seriously. I think the guy just raised the price by a dollar but I can't be too sure. When I think about it, what else can I buy for the same amount? A novel, perhaps? Nah, I've got too much in my hands already. Despite this little rag being a retread of the films, it would be nice to own and cuz' it will definitely say something about how much a a frickin' hardcore fan I am!
*Sigh* I just wish someone would see their Robotech Art 3 for a rock bottom price. Did I tell you I found some guy selling Robotech Art 2 and Macross II Art book? I settled for the RT Art 2 (and I regret seeing Roboteddies). Was the Macross II Art book good?
3. Overly Musuclar Praxians?? Now I see why Sentinels got so much flack (This reminds me of Futurama now). As far as I know, there's Karen Penn, the only buxom blonde in the series as far as I know. This is definitely in the must-buy category now. But yeah, the David Hasslehoff wannabes are definitely a deterrant... Please, tell me - is Breetai wearing a bucket here?
Also, is there Janice Em posing in all her robotic glory?
